Mahatma Gandhi's birthday is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti every year on 2nd October. We are preparing to celebrate Mahatma Gandhi's 155th birthday (Gandhi Jayanti 2024) this year 2024. Let's see the history and significance of this day which honors Mahatma's non-violence and truth.Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on the 2nd of October 1869 as the last son of Karamchand Gandhi and Putlibhai Ammaiyar in Porbandar, a major port city in Gujarat.
He then completed his law studies at University College England. After graduating from law school, he initially worked in South Africa.
It was there that he first developed the philosophy of non-violent resistance against racism called 'Satyagraha'.
It was this non-violent satyagraha that became a tool for mobilizing the Indian people against British rule. Movements like the Salt Distillation Movement and Quit White made Mahatma Gandhi a national icon of India.
Nathuram Godse Wal Gandhi was unfortunately assassinated on January 30, 1948 after the independence of India. But Gandhi's teachings of non-violence and peace still resonate throughout the world.
