India's growing prominence as a top international travel destination is demonstrated by the size of its airport network. There are now about 130 airports in service in India. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and private businesses oversee a wide range of domestic, international, and customs airports that make up this extensive network. Large airports such as Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Foreign Airport in Mumbai are important entrance points for international travel. The Indian government is expanding and modernising airport infrastructure in response to increasing passenger demand, with new airports being constructed and many existing ones undergoing restorations. This programme aims to strengthen connections and encourage economic growth on a national scale.
